A content creator is someone who produces and publishes content - videos, photos, written posts, podcasts - on social media platforms as their primary output, often building an audience around a particular topic or style. The term is broader than “influencer”: all influencers create content, but not all content creators have reached influencer-level following or monetisation.
The creator economy has grown substantially, with platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram introducing monetisation tools specifically designed for creators - ad revenue sharing, creator funds, subscriptions, and tipping. Many content creators now operate as independent media businesses.
