A finsta (a portmanteau of “fake” and “Instagram”) is a secondary Instagram account used for sharing more candid, unfiltered, or personal content with a smaller, trusted group - often close friends rather than a full public following. The “main” account is typically curated and polished; the finsta is the opposite.
The term is predominantly used by younger users and reflects a broader desire to separate public-facing identity from more authentic self-expression online. Despite the name, a finsta isn’t deceptive - it’s more about audience segmentation than pretence.
